The new Canine Card dogs -- Copper and Tizzy

Two new dogs have joined the Canine Card site. Copper and Tizzy are owned by Hazel Higgins and David Bew of First Contact Agility.

Copper and Tizzy would now like to introduce themselves to you.

Copper - born 06/07/2002 aged 4 ½ years

Copper

My Mum was a Collie X Dachshund, Dad was a Terrier. I didn’t really get to know them as I was sent to a local rescue centre with my four brothers and sisters as we were ‘unplanned’ and ‘unwanted’. I was 9 weeks old and very scared but that’s when my life changed forever.

I was quietly playing hide and seek with myself (my brothers and sisters were being boring) when two humans came into our room. I popped up from behind my bed and spotted them - they looked really friendly; I gave them my cutest look and they were putty in my hands! I had a new home.

It was great; I had 16 acres to roam in, 7 friends to play with, a comfy, warm bed and lots of food and cuddles. I didn’t think life could get any better, but it did. I had only been in my new home for two days when I was whisked off to something called flyball – my new friends had been babbling on about this since I arrived, I just couldn’t understand what all the excitement was about, until I turned up at a place called Scotland and there it was. Amazing!! Lots of dogs allowed to play and bark as much as they wanted and getting fed for it! Heaven! I was hooked.

My life was a whirlwind of flyball and agility shows, I got to travel the country, meeting lots of new humans and dogs. It was great, everyone loved me. When I was twelve months old, I was allowed to train and it was great fun, I have never looked back.

I am chuffed to be on Canine Cards because I have always wanted to be a famous model !!

Tizzy - born 01/06/2000 6 ½ ish (but a lady shouldn’t have to give her age)

Tizzy and Copper

I had a horrible start to life. My first human just used to leave me and my kennel mate in a shed all day and all night – I hated it! They eventually got fed up with me complaining and took me to the local orphanage. That felt nearly as bad, but at least I got two short walks and a decent meal every day.

I was left in that orphanage for more than 5 months because every time a new human came to look in my kennel, I used to shout and jump up and down to try and get their attention; it didn’t seam to matter how much I shouted, they just kept passing me by and choosing the quiet dogs instead. I thought I was going to go mad; I just couldn’t cope with the thought of waking up every morning and looking at the same four walls for the rest of my life.

One day some different humans took me out for my walk, I didn’t take any notice, I was just glad to be out sniffing the fresh air. As we were walking around, I could hear them talking about how much energy and enthusiasm I had – they said I would be perfect for them. I was actually going to get a home. I spent the next hour getting to know them; we were a match made in heaven, as soon as my new mum to be tickled my ear, I was obsessed, I had never felt anything like it before. I made sure I went home with them that day.

Mum spent hours with me over the next few years, teaching me how to play with a ball – I had never seen one before. I learnt how to behave in public; I learnt tricks, clicker training, flyball and my favourite – AGILITY. I was a natural. Mum and I went from elementary to advanced in our first season. It was soooooo much fun.

I am also chuffed to be on Canine Cards but really it is me who is the star and I need to be there to look after Copper !!
