Canine Card Dogs

Six dogs are part of the Canine Cards family - they are MegJazz, Copper and Tizzy and our cartoon dogs - Scruffs and Buddy . Their stories provide some information about where they live, what they do, their age and character.

Meg

Meg is nearly four years old and lives with her family on a small farm called Pentre Afon, in West Wales. Meg was born in Snowdonia. Her mother was a farm sheepdog, her father a Welsh National Sheepdog Champion. She has numerous National Sheepdog Champions appearing in her pedigree.

Meg was one of seven pups, and at eight weeks of age was chosen by her new family. The children chose her because she was so pretty, the farmer chose her because even at that age she showed intelligence and a willingness to please. He felt that she would make a good sheepdog and... he was right!

Meg is now top bitch, keeping her younger “colleague” very much in check!!!

Meg is an excellent sheepdog, she is kind, gentle, loving, very clever, understands more than she lets on, is good with the sheep, can work on her own and her owner could not manage the stock without her. She loves to work and never tires and when she has finished her work she loves nothing better than a game of ball, or chase with the farm children. In the summer, her favourite trick is to wander off with them, down to the stream for a cool swim.

Meg was mated last year to a local dog, a powerful boy, who works a large flock on the Preseli Hills.

Meg had five puppies (four bitches and one dog), three went to farms throughout Wales, one to England and one (the dog) to a local family who live in the local village of Ffynnon. That boy is Jazz.

Jazz

Jazz is 15months old and a handsome chap nicknamed “the boy”. He is a typical juvenile – slightly uncoordinated, a bit clumsy, constantly on the go, and – a bit of a lad. He loves his chew bone, his ball and his squeaky toys which he often squeaks incessantly during favourite TV programmes.

Jazz is a sweet dog, very loving, very friendly and doesn’t like trouble although --- he is often in it!!

Jazz lives with his family in a small village called Ffynnon in West Wales and has just started local dog training classes doing obedience and agility.

Jazz finds it hard to contain himself during obedience lessons but in agility – everything Is done with great gusto!!

Jazz’s family are very friendly with the family from the farm so he is often taken up to the farm to visit.

Jazz loves to visit his Mum Meg who although pleased to see him, often has to put him in his place. Although Jazz still shows the typical sheepdog traits when around sheep, he thinks that they are better to chase than herd and drive and --- Mum is not amused!!

Copper and Tizzy

Copper is four and Tizzy about six and both dogs live just outside the village of Fynnon.  They moved there with their family about a year ago.  Copper and Tizzy's family are Mum, Dad and baby plus five other dogs.

The family moved to the village from the city and took over an old farmhouse and smallholding.  Both dogs have a great time on the farm and enjoy all the freedom they now have.  Both Copper and Tizzy had poor starts in life and their family adopted both dogs from local resuce centres.

Copper and Tizzy are "mates" and have had one litter of pups which they are very proud of.  Both dogs love agility and flyball and travel to competitions all over the country with their Mum.

They meet Jazz regularly on their walks around the village and at the local dog training school and the three dogs all get on really well.  They don't see quite as much of Meg, but their smallholding borders Pentre Afon Farm so they see her when she is on her rounds managing the sheep and - providing she isn't too busy - always pop over to say "woof".

Jazz thinks Copper is great and one day -- wants to be an agility dog just like him.

Scruffs and Buddy

Scruffs and Buddy are two rescue centre dogs – both are about three years old.  Their early history isn’t really known but they were both found wandering near Cardigan town centre and were collected and taken to a local rescue centre.

They stayed at the centre for quite a while – often being overlooked for younger dogs, until a family from Jazz’s village of Fynnon arrived and fell in love with them both.  They now live happily with the new “Mum and Dad” and regularly meet with all the other Canine Card dogs on their walks.

Scruffs is lovable and full of fun.  He is always in trouble, a bit daft with not a care in the world.  His greatest pal is Buddy.

Buddy is also very lovable but he is very gentle, very caring and a real worrier.  Buddy feels that he needs to care for Scruffs and keep him out of trouble.

Scruffs and Buddy did go to the local training school with their Mum and Dad – that’s where they met Jazz, Copper and Tizzy but ---- Scruffs caused havoc and Buddy worried about the trouble he was causing so – after teaching them basic good behaviour, their Mum and Dad gave up !!!!

Both Scruffs and Buddy are now very content with life and very happy in their new home.
